A Guide to the Monorail Loop

The Monorail is something that is so originally Disney, that it’s hard to think of the two apart! Not only is this a great mode of transportation, but some even consider it a ride all on it’s own!

This guide will give you all the in’s and outs that you need to know when it comes to using the Disney Monorail System.

What is the Monorail?

The Monorail is similar to a subway train, but instead of being underground, it runs in the sky along multiple beam tracks. Each train is in a different color, making it a fun and visually appealing sight as they drive along the tracks!

This is also one of Disney’s complimentary forms of transportation that you are free to use whether you are staying as a guest on property or not.

Where does it go?

There are two main loops that you will find on the monorail, the Magic Kingdom Loop, and the Epcot Loop. You guessed it! That means they can take you BOTH of these Disney Theme Parks.

You will also find a number of Resorts around the Magic Kingdom loop that you can get to from the monorail, which we will go over later.

Ticket and Transportation Center aka the TTC

If you are arriving by car to the Magic Kingdom, you will find yourself at the TTC. This is essentially a hub for the Monorail and Ferry Boats to take you from your car to the Park Entrance.

This is actually purposeful in it’s design because Walt wanted a ‘grand reveal’ instead of just walking up to the gate from the parking lot.

You can also find that there will be a ‘express’ monorail that goes directly from Magic Kingdom to the TTC if you are not wanting to stop at each of the resorts. This is also the station that you will use to transfer from the Magic Kingdom Monorail to the Epcot one and vis versa.

Just a note that lines can get pretty long here, especially at park opening. Be sure to alot more time than you think it will take to get to your destination, just so you are prepared.

The Magic Kingdom Loop

Along with access to the Magic Kingdom, you will also find stops at 3 Disney Resorts: The Polynesian, The Grand Floridian, and The Contemporary Resort.

These are all Deluxe category resorts featuring a wide variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment making it an excellent option for some resort hopping. You can read more about that HERE.

You can visit each of these Disney Resorts, even if you are not currently a guest staying there. The only things that will be off limits are the pools and of course the rooms.

Each of these resorts also has security checkpoints before entering the monorail which means you can skip the sometimes long security lines at the park!

If you are staying at one of these resorts and are trying to get to Epcot, just know that you will need to take the monorail to the TTC and then transfer to the Epcot line.

The Epcot Line

This line goes from the TTC to the Epcot Station. This one is pretty easy since it really only has the two stops.

Our favorite thing about this track is that it actually loops through the park so you get a little glimpse of some of the pavilions before getting to the exit station.

A bonus about this is that you can actually then walk through Epcot (if you have a park ticket of course) and exit through International Gateway to visit Yacht & Beach Club, The Boardwalk, or access the Skyliner and the resorts on that line!

We LOVE riding the Monorail and that it mixes it up from just using the buses. Definitely make sure you make it a priority to give this a try on YOUR next vacation!
