All-Star-Music-Resort
All-Star Music Resort is one of three All-Star Resorts and is a great option for families on a budget! Let’s explore this resort with over the top theming that will make you want to move your feet!
This resort is one of Disney’s Value level resorts. Prices in 2023 range from around $150-$200 per night for Standard and Preferred rooms and between $300-$400 per night for Family Suites. (They may vary a bit more or a bit less depending on holiday pricing and discounts that become available). The theming is based around different genres of music and you will find over the top statues and theming to Rock’n Roll, Country, Broadway, Jazz, and Latin style music.
You can watch our full tour of this resort on YouTube:
Rooms
There are three room types at this resort: Standard, Preferred, and Family Suites.
Standard and Preferred Rooms are essentially going to be the same, with the biggest difference being location. Standard Rooms will be towards the back of the resort in the Country, Rock’n Roll, and Broadway Sections, while the Preferred Rooms will be in the Jazz and Calypso sections.
These rooms sleep up to four guests and include two queen sized beds. One of the beds is a pull down murphy style bed to create some extra space when you aren’t using it. This reveals a table and two chairs that are great for a quick bite in your room.
The bathrooms are pretty standard and are separated from the rest of the room by a sliding barn door. You’ll find all your typical amenities like iron, ironing board, hangers, tissues, soaps, a hair dryer, towels, and toilet paper. The shower may be walk in or a shower/tub combo depending on the room, but if you have accessibility needs, you can filter by that when booking your room!
Back in the bedroom you will find a dresser area with plenty of space for your things and outlets to charge your electronics. The drawers are decently spacious if you like to unpack and this is also where you will find your safe.
Next to the dresser is your coffee and tea bar! You’ll find everything you need to make your morning cup of joe. Below is the beverage cooler. It is important to note that these are NOT refrigerators and it is not recommended to keep things that need to truly be refrigerated like milk, deli meat, and the like.
Family Suites
These are going to be similar in theming but as the name insinuates, they are a bit bigger. These rooms sleep up to 6 guests and include a separate bedroom with a queen sized bed and its own bathroom. The family room has a couch and a table with chairs that are both queen sized murphy style pull down beds.
You will find a similar set up for dresser drawers and TV and just off of that is the second bathroom. Both bathrooms are full sized bathrooms and include shower/tub options.
One of my favorite features of this room is the the full sized fridge and kitchenette area that you usually only get in Deluxe villa rooms! This is great to have some easy options like sandwiches, water bottles, or other light options.
The Pools
There are two pools at this resort! The Calypso Pool is the main pool at the front of the resort and the Piano Pool is the ‘quiet’ pool nestled at the back of the resort between the Country, Rock’n Roll, and Broadway sections. Guests are free to use either pool and both have laundry facilities available.
The laundry facilities have washer and dryers that operate via card. There is also a vending machine that dispenses laundry soap and dryer sheets for a fee. (but it might be a good idea to bring your own)
You can watch our full video where we show you exactly how these work here:
The main Calypso Pool features a super fun fountain themed after the Three Caballeros and this is also where you will find most of the poolside activities like trivia, dance parties, and other games throughout the day.
Towels and Life Jackets are available for guests to use and lifeguards are on duty during pool hours.
This is a value resort, so there are no waterslides at these pools, but they are large and still alot of fun!
Other Resort Activities
When entering the pool area, you may notice a board with ‘Resort Activities’. There are a variety of special activities that happen around the resort every day that guests can participate in! Free offerings like Campfire S’mores and Movie under the stars happen every night (weather pending) and there are even some paid options like Tie Dye that guests can do. These switch up a bit every month, so be sure to check out these boards to see what’s happening at your resort!
Check-In and Lobby
Let’s head back to the front and talk about the main lobby of the resort. You will find the Check-in desk here. This is going to be the best place to go not only for check-in, but if you have any questions regarding your reservation, magicbands, paying off balances, and other things for your stay. Keep in mind that they are NOT able to handle anything having to do with park tickets, so that will need to be done at the Ticket Center at Disney Springs or at one of the Theme Parks.
Online Check-in is available to all guests before they arrive via the My Disney Experience App! This is a great way to skip the Check-in line and go straight to your room when it is ready. You’ll get a text with your room number and location and you can unlock your room with your Magicband or MagicMobile through the app. If you wish to get physical room keys, you can get those from the front desk.
You can also find a pin trading board at the front desk and this is where you can get your free celebration buttons!
Across from the Check-in desk, you will find a small sitting Area with a TV playing Disney movies for littles to enjoy while the parents are waiting in line.
Maestro Mickey’s Gift Shop
Across from the lobby is Maestro Mickey’s. This is a gift shop with all your basic Disney Merch as well as a few resort specific items. If you are needing first aid or other things like sunscreen, baby, or feminine products, this is also where you will find those.
There is another pin trading station here! Sometimes they have a mystery box board or a traditional pin board if you are looking to trade some pins!
Arcade
If you are looking for a little fun on a rainy day, you can check out the arcade! This is full of typical arcade style games available for a fee and they may even be running competitions here on select days!
Right outside the door is where you will find this resort’s pressed penny machine as well as Fuel Rod Station.
Intermission Food Court
The dining at this resort is food court style. There are different stations where you order your food and then you check out with the cashiers before finding your table. Mobile order is available if you want to skip the line or are just looking for your meal to-go.
The food offerings here are going to be pretty typical with burgers, tenders, pizza, and sandwiches, but from time to time you may also find some specialty items! There is also a grab’n go section for bottled drinks, and quick bites.
Beverage stations are self serve and these will be what you use if you have a resort refillable mug.
There is plenty of indoor seating available, but at certain times of day (usually breakfast or right after park close) this can get a little more crowded. BUT your room will have a table if you wish to take your food back and enjoy it there.
Sing-along Spirits
Right outside is where you will find the pool bar. There is some outside seating that is shared with the food court as well as some bar seating. You’ll find a variety of fruity cocktails, but this is a full bar, so you can request other mix drinks as well as wine and beer.
Transportation
This resort offers shuttle bus transportation. This is a BIG one to consider when staying at this resort! All three All-Star Resorts share a bus route, so it will stop at All-Star Sports first, then Music, then Movies. Luckily since Music is the middle resort, it isn’t too bad most of the time, but during busier times of day like park open or park close OR during busier times of year like holidays, the buses can take awhile. This won’t ruin your vacation, it just takes a little planning! If you are trying to rope drop, head to the bus stop at least an hour before early entry and you should be fine and at park close, stay in the parks for a bit afterwards to avoid the crazy long bus lines.
I’m not usually one to say rent a car when staying at Disney, but if you are visiting during an especially crowded time like Christmas or Spring Break, having your own car may ease some stress. HOWEVER - I would still recommend taking the bus to Magic Kingdom no matter what so that you can avoid the craziness that is parking at the Transportation and Ticket Center. (That’s a whole other topic)
Truly, the buses are not too bad! Just go into it knowing ahead of time and plan accordingly and you’ll be just fine!
Luggage Services
This resort does offer complimentary luggage services. You will find this right outside next to where the airport shuttle/Uber/Rideshare entrance is. If you arrive to your resort and your room is not ready, you can drop your luggage by and they will take it to your room when it is ready. Just a heads up, they will not take it until later in the evening (after 5-6pm) so if you want it early than that, just make a stop by and you can pick it up! Same thing upon check-out. If you have a later flight and are heading to the parks or pool for the morning, you can have Luggage Service hold your suitcases and then you can pick them up before you leave.
If you have medication that needs refrigerated, they do have a refrigerator available as well.
Luggage Services is complimentary, but it is customary to tip a few dollars cash per bag, so be sure to have that handy!
Mousekeeping
Housekeeping (or Mousekeeping as Disney likes to call it) will visit daily to bring fresh towels and take trash. You do have the option to opt out of Mousekeeping, but be aware that for safety reasons, they still must do daily room checks. Don’t let this freak you out! They will give a knock, usually a little later in the morning and just do a quick peek inside to make sure that everything is good. If you are planning on a late start to your day, put the ‘do not disturb’ sign on your door and they will make sure to knock a few times before entering uninvited.
It is also customary to tip a few dollars each day for Mousekeeping, so feel free to have fun with this and maybe even make little envelopes with the tips for your Mousekeepers!
Perks of Staying at All-Star Music
This is a great resort to consider if budget is a big factor, but you still want those Disney perks! But what are those perks?
Complimentary Transportation - We talked about this already, but a big reason people stay on site is to use Disney’s Complimentary Transportation. This can save you ALOT of money in rental car, gas, and parking fees and takes away the stress of trying to figure out traffic in Orlando.
Early Park Entry - Guests staying at Disney owned resorts (as well as a few select good neighbor hotels) can enter the theme parks up to 30 minutes each day! The rides start at that time, but most of the parks will let you in even before that to get ahead of the crowds, so the earlier you get to the park, the better! This is a great way to knock out a few of those rides that typically get long waits before the lines get long. I know 30 minutes doesn’t sound like much, but this is a great way to save yourself up to an hour or two of park time!
Early Access to Purchase Individual Lightning Lanes - anyone can purchase Genie+ and book their first Lightning Lane starting at 7am, BUT ONLY Disney resorts guests can purchase Individual Lightning Lanes (for attractions like Rise of the Resistance or TRON) starting at 7am. Guests staying on property can purchase these too, but not until official park open, so they may not get the best selection for return times or availability. If these rides are high on your bucket list, that early advantage is a great perk!
Learn More About Genie Plus and Lightning Lanes Here:
Speaking of advantages, Guests staying at Disney owned resorts have a leg up on dining reservations as well! In General, dining reservations can be booked starting 60 days in advance. If you are staying at a Disney owned resort, you can book dining for up to 10 days of your trip starting 60 days before check-in! So instead of having to get up early, multiple days in a row, you can book all your dining at once. PLUS if you are trying to get a harder to get reservation like a character meal, you have a much higher likelihood of snagging those since it is opening up to you earlier than those staying off property. In my opinion, this is the BIGGEST perk that is often overlooked as many don’t realize that some of those popular meals can be incredibly difficult to book.
Overall seamless experience - Because you are staying at a Disney resort, everything is connected! Your tickets, hotel, charging privaleges, and more. Guests who are staying on property can get discounts on Magicbands before their trip and with those, they can use that as their park ticket, their hotel key, genie+, and even make purchases that just charge to your hotel all at once at the end of your trip for easy bill-keeping. Guests staying off property can still purchase magicbands, but they will be full price and ONLY work as their park ticket or to scan into Genie+ Lightning Lanes. I love that this gives more of that ‘all-inclusive’ type feel.
Starting in 2024, guests will also be able to add the Dining Plan to their package! Talking about ease on vacation, this is a great way to pre-pay for your meals before your trip so that you aren’t having to worry as much about budget while there. This is only available to guests staying on property and is a big perk that guests love.
So who is this resort for?
If you are a family with kiddos, looking for something extra budget friendly, or maybe are just a huge music fan, this may be a great resort for you! Those family suites are the best price on property for that room type and perfect if your family is a little larger or just wants a little extra space. If you want that over the top feel that just screams ‘Disney’, this would be a super fun resort!
If you are someone that tends to like something a little more classy or upscale, I would probably stray away from this one and maybe consider a moderate resort if you are still on a budget.
If you are planning on just using your room for showering and sleeping, this is a good option, but if you are planning on alot of resort time or looking for more to do at your resort, the Moderate and Deluxe resorts may have you covered. If those are out of price point, Pop Century or Art of Animation may give you more options to visit those other resorts since they have access to the Skyliner.
Overall, this is a really fun resort and a fantastic budget friendly option!
