Little Mermaid Room Review

Art of Animation has been on our bucket list for a long time, but I always thought that it wouldn’t be in the cards for us since it’s mostly family suites. (it’s just my husband and I). BUT once we found out about the Little Mermaid Rooms, we HAD to book a stay here!

The Little Mermaid Rooms are more of a standard hotel room size with either two queen beds or one king bed. The theming is very fun and over the top like you would expect from this resort.

The Ambiance

This room is VERY heavily themed to the Little Mermaid including details like ‘sheet music’ to the classic songs from the movie, Ariel herself on the shower curtain, and a giant seashell bed!

There are bright colors everywhere you look and if over the top Disney theming is what you are looking for, then this is a great option for you!

The floors are a vinyl, and fairly clean and the white bedding gives this what would be a very kid-centric room, a slightly more sophisticated feel that is great for older guests.

You will also still find all of your standard hotel amenities such as a coffee maker, mini fridge, phone, television, and PLENTY of outlets.

Location

The rooms at Art of Animation are sorted by the different themed ‘sections’: Finding Nemo, Cars, and Lion King are all family suites, and the Little Mermaid section has all the standard style rooms.

The BIGGEST bummer is the location of these rooms. They are the farthest away from everything including the lobby, main pool, dining/shopping venues, bus stops, and Skyliner.

Because of that, you need to be prepared to do A TON of walking while on your vacation. It’s a good 8 or so minute walk from there to the lobby, so good shoes are going to be key!

HOWEVER a redeeming factor is that there is a pool right in the center of this section. It is considered one of the ‘quiet’ pools, so it will usually be a little less busy. There is also a laundry facility in this section in case you need to do any washing while on your trip!

These rooms are external entry, so your door will face outside. This isn’t a big deal, but something to note since the family suites in the other sections are internal entry.

Pros of the Room

The theming is definitely a HUGE pro of this room! We loved how much it kept us right in the middle of the Disney Magic and for Little Mermaid fans, you will be OBSESSED!

We did also appreciate that the room was clean and pretty spacious since we had a king bed room.

Since this room is so ‘far away’, it was pretty quiet! We didn’t have much issues with noise and our room faced the pool. You may run into noise issues, however, if you have noisy neighbors…. But unfortunately there isn’t much to do about that.

We also enjoyed that this was a pretty decently priced room! The family suites at this resort can run you upwards of $450-$550 per night! We only paid $195 per night in the month of August. It is one of the more expensive resorts for a value resort, but the Skyliner access definitely makes it worth it.

The fact that the pool is so close is also a great perk! We personally like the quiet pools since there usually aren’t as many kids, and since it was right outside our door, it was great to not have to walk all over the resort in our wet bathing suits.

The not so great stuff…

It was SO FAR FROM EVERYTHING! It was not an easy task to walk back and forth and if we forgot something in the room…. forget it. It isn’t so bad for a day or two, but if you are going hard in the parks for several days, that walk is NOT fun.

There wasn’t as much storage in this room compared to other value resorts we’ve stayed in. There were three small dresser drawers and room under the bed for our suitcases, but that’s about it. There is a place to hang some clothes, but it isn’t as nice as the ‘closet’ that you will find at Pop Century.

The theming is pretty over the top! For some people, this is a great thing! For others, it may be too much. If you are looking for something with a little less in your face theming, you may enjoy one of the other value resorts instead. (Although all of these are pretty known for the over the top theming throughout the resort even though the rooms are more tame.

Overall Thoughts

We really did enjoy this resort and would consider staying here again! Although the room wasn’t totally our taste, we really enjoyed the resort as a whole!

I would HIGHLY recommend this room for Little Mermaid fans or those that really want to stay in the Disney Bubble. I would also recommend this for couples or smaller families that are trying to stay on a budget.

I would NOT recommend this room if you have a physical disability, unless you are ok with the walking distance. I also would stray away if you aren’t into super loud theming.

Overall, this is a really great option when it comes to Disney Resorts and I would definitely suggest putting it on your list!
