Deluxe Studio Savanna View Room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Recently we experienced a little staycation at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and we were transported to the African Savannas for a short weekend getaway!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has two parts to the resort: Jambo House and Kidani Village. The latter is this resort’s DVC or Disney Vacation Club property, which is essentially Disney’s Time Share. HOWEVER, they do also have a few DVC rooms at Jambo House and that is where we stayed.
The Room
Deluxe Studio rooms sleep up to 4 guests with a single queen bed and a queen sized pull out couch. This differs from a regular room in two significant ways - the regular rooms have two queen beds or one king bed while the Deluxe Studios have the bed/couch combo. The Deluxe Studios also have a small kitchenette featuring an additional sink, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and dining utensils.
As a childless couple, we really enjoyed relaxing on the couch while looking out at the animals and the extra space in the room that it gave! It made our room feel more homey and if you plan on spending alot of time in your room, it’s nice to have the option of sitting somewhere comfortable besides the bed.

Living Area
In the main living area, you will also find a smart tv to watch select Disney offerings as well as some other basic channels. Below that is a beautifully hand carved dresser with four decently sized drawers to stow your things. There is a larger compartment on the bottom that can hold a small suitcase, shoes, or whatever else you wish to put there.
There is some additional seating with a table and two chairs that is great if you wish to bring a meal from the Mara back to your room. This resort does not offer room service, but you can always mobile order from the Mara - this resort’s quick service location - and get it to-go. Above the table is a mirror and additional lighting.
Along with the dresser, you will also find a large wardrobe equipped with hangars, iron, ironing board, safe, extra pillows & blanket, and a luggage rack. I always find these helpful if I have nicer clothes that need hung for a nice dinner. And to add even more storage, there is a small bench with an additional drawer next to the wardrobe!
Something that was definitely interesting with this room was the thermostat. It is a digital thermostat and is locked to only go down to around 68. It is based on a motion sensor, so during the night, we did notice that it would get really warm and then kick back on when we would wake up and move around a bit. There IS a fan in this room, however, so that did help!
Bathroom
The Bathroom was probably my least favorite feature in this room. It did have plenty of counter space and two sinks, but there was not any storage under the sink and the lighting was AWEFUL. I know that alot of that had to do with the theming and light fixtures….. but some behind the mirror lights would be helpful…
The shower water pressure was just fine and it does still currently have the H2O Hair & Body Products attached to the wall! You are also given a small bottle of lotion and face soap near the sink. It was also a shower/tub combo, so perfect if you have little ones who take baths.
This is a DVC room, so Mousekeeping (Disney’s version of housekeeping) only comes every 4th and 8th day, so if you are someone who wants fresh towels each day, be aware that you will need to request them. We were just there overnight, so it wasn’t a big deal for us!
The Savanna View Balcony
And of course, the whole reason you book a stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge is for that Savanna View Balcony! We had a fantastic time sitting and watching the animal graze on the savanna. Pro Tip: They get fed around 5-6pm, so they are very active around that time. We even saw a whole herd of the animals run across the savanna and playing and it was honestly a ton of fun!
Who is this room for?
Personally, I do NOT think everyone should book a Savanna View Room. If your family is planning on spending most of your time at the parks and really only using the resort to sleep, I would not pay the significant price difference to upgrade to the Savanna Room. There are many great places to view the animals all around the resort, so you can still get that experience! However, if you do plan on spending some time at your resort, it can be a great place to sip on your morning coffee or even watch the sunset!
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and I think this room is excellent for couples or even families with small children who don’t mind sleeping on a pull out couch. The theming is spot on and you do feel transported! (and that’s coming from someone who literally lives right next to Disney World).
